This 5 Minute Cheesy Garlic Bread is the ideal simple side to whip up to go with all manner of meals, from pasta to barbecue. Use a baguette or whatever bread you like and melted cheese is an optional addition!

Ingredients

  • 80 g 2¾ oz unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp freshly minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped flat-leaf parsley
  • 1 tsp sea salt flakes
  • 1 baguette cut into thick 1.5 cm (½ inch) slices
  • cups 225 g grated melting cheese (see note 1) (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven grill (broiler).
  • Make the garlic butter – Melt the butter in 10-second intervals in the microwave until it softens (it will take roughly 20 seconds).
  • Mix in the garlic, parsley and salt using a spoon.
  • Spread the butter on the bread – Spread the butter mixture on one side of the bread slices.
  • Add the cheese – Top each slice with the grated cheese, if using.
  • Grill (broil) – Place your bread on a baking tray (use two trays if needed so that no pieces overlap). Grill (broil) for 2–5 minutes. The bread will cook quickly so keep an eye on it.
  • Serve – Serve immediately.

Recipe notes

Note 1 – Mozzarella or cheddar is best. Pre-shredded cheese can be used but contains additives, so it doesn’t melt as well as freshly grated cheese.
